In the beginning there were numbers.
They hold up the world,
and the world they hold up is made of numbers.
Our galaxy has a hundred billion stars,
which is nothing compared to the universe.
Stars… lost in the numbers.
Under every rock—numbers.
In every breath—numbers.
There is nothing too big to be counted;
nothing too small to count.
A hundred million people today
stopped whatever they were doing
when they heard the news: another shooting—
the first question is: how many?
Lives… lost in the numbers.
